AudioCafe Q & A :

How do I play music files with Audio Cafe ?
Once you start the program, AudioCafe will scan the current set of folders to find audio files and it will list what it finds in the Browser window. To play any particular song, or folder of songs, just click it once to change the icon to a little speaker. Then press the Play button, and AudioCafe will play all tracks that you have marked.
How come AudioCafe doesn't show all of the directories on my computer ?
AudioCafe will only show you folder trees that have audio files in them.
AudioCafe also allows you to specify certain folders NOT to scan. This is to help speed up the scanning process and avoid scanning complicated and empty folder trees like, say, WINDOWS. These folders are specified via the SETTINGS button. By using the drive and folder navigator windows (on the left in the default skin) you can still get to folders that are excluded from scanning. Once you are 'in' AudioCafe will scan then as normal.

There is also a current bug where the program will not scan folders that are marked for Archive (under the folder properties), and some read-only files. Not sure why yet.
What is Random Folders ?
Random Folders is like picking a random CD out of your collection and playing it.

When AudioCafe's random mode is set to Random Folders, AudioCafe will select a random folder (with music files) from all folders that are selected in the main browser. It will then play all audio tracks in that folder, sequentially. Once that folder is done AudioCafe will then choose another, and so on until all selected folders are played.

Note that Crossfading is turned off when you start in Random Folders mode (particularily for mixed CDs), but you can turn it back on in the settings if you prefer.
How do I show the Album Cover of the currently playing album ?
When AudioCafe plays a song, it simply looks to see if there is any graphic files (JPG, GIF) in the same folder that the song was in. If so, it displays it. This is because generally I sort my music into a folder per album. If you have a folder full of miscellaneous singles, you can just drop your favourite generic picture of the artist, or yourself if you like.
How do I edit the MP3 tag info of an MP3 file ?
Right-click the file in the playlist window and choose "Edit MP3 info".
* note * - if you try and edit the MP3 tag info of the track that is currently playing you will get an error.
What are you working on next for AudioCafe ?
The AudioCafe to-do list:
- pop-up tooltips
- search function (find tracks with specified text in the current tree)
- read and save m3u playlists
- enable edit of MP3 tag of currently playing track (currently works only for a non-playing track)
- "stay on top" feature for album cover
- floating album cover screen saver ... (or maybe not. Who knows)
- windows file association - ability to make AudioCafe your default player
- "Play this folder" context menu option in Windows.
- play random folder. I may get to this sooner, but Christmas is a busy time...
